For those who suffer from migraines, they are not just a normal part of life that is to be accepted. It is not something that one needs to learn to live with. Migraines occur due to something in the brain that is not functioning as it should. Often it is connected to a change in blood or cerebrospinal fluid flow. Why does this happen?
A misalignment in the bones of the upper neck, particularly the C1 and C2 vertebrae, can often be linked to migraines. This area of the neck is called the upper cervical spine, and misalignments here often occur due to its mobility. We will address how to care for this problem later on. First, let’s talk about how to find out what may be a trigger for your migraines.

A Migraine Diary Can Be Helpful
Anyone who experiences migraines should have a migraine diary to learn what external factors are causing episodes to begin. If these can be determined and avoided, migraines occurrence may be reduced.
Keeping a diary is not as difficult as it sounds. Things to include are:
- How did one feel afterward?
- What time did one eat?
- Did a migraine occur?
- What was being done?
- What was the weather like?
- Did one sleep well the previous night?
This is just a general idea. The important thing is that when a migraine occurs, you need to go back and write down everything that happened beforehand. After a few occurrences, a pattern will begin to develop that may help you to determine your personal migraine triggers. These things can then be avoided, if possible.
A Healthy Spine Helps Alleviate Migraines
Another important factor in caring for migraines is to make sure the upper cervical spine is in proper order. Here at 1st Place Chiropractic, we use a gentle method to help realign these bones, allowing the body to function properly once again and restoring proper blood flow to the brain. This is often all that is needed to see an improvement in the pain of migraines.
