“The pain was affecting my life a great deal.”
At the age of ten I began to get headaches and over the years they continued to get worse. In the beginning they would just last a day or two, but as they increased in intensity, they would last as long as a week at a time. The headaches were to the point that I was confined to my bed in the evening. The pain was affecting my life a great deal.
At first, I relied on Tylenol. I would take as many as four pills at a time, but when that didn’t help I went to see a doctor. The doctor prescribed medication. The medication would help for a couple of months, but then I would notice the medicine wasn’t working as well for me. The doctor would then prescribe a new medication, because I had become immune to the previous one. That is how it was for me.
A friend told me to try Upper Cervical Chiropractic and I thought, “My back isn’t hurting me.” “How are they going to help with my headaches?” Dr. Kleinfelter was offering a great deal for the exam and x-rays at the time. I was very skeptical, but I figured it was only twenty-seven dollars, and it wasn’t like I was going to be out one-hundred dollars or something. I thought, “What do I have to lose?”
My first impression about Dr. Kleinfelter was that she wasn’t a doctor with the typical bed-side manner, so-to-speak. She was very bubbly, open, and easy to talk to. I really liked her. I thought it was going to be like the “old time” chiropractors, where she would twist and push and pull. However, after I went I was very, very surprised at how gentle it was.
I have been under care for a little over a year now. During the first three months, I didn’t notice any improvement, but I continued to go because it really made sense to me. Dr. Kleinfelter was very optimistic, and I felt that I needed to stay with it, and give it a try. I was spending a lot of money on prescriptions because my insurance doesn’t cover a great deal of the cost of Imitrex. I was hopeful that Upper Cervical Care would be a better alternative. Hearing Dr. Kleinfelter’s personal testimony, as well as her secretary, Patti, encouraged me to try this with an open mind, and give it a good chance. About six months into the care, I noticed my headaches weren’t lasting as long, and they weren’t as severe. I still had to take my medication, but I noticed the headaches would be gone within a couple of hours. I didn’t even anticipate having other improvements, but I have had relief from my spastic colon. I have not had any emergencies in the last 5 months. I can now go out to eat and not have to find a bathroom right away. I can even go on long rides and be okay. You have no idea what a comfort it is not to have to worry anymore.
I was the first one to say, “Chiropractor- yeah right!” But now I tell people to give this a chance! It really has changed my life!
