Finding Success in Caring for Vertigo

Vertigo Relief, Dizziness Relief, Dizzy, Meniere’s Disease Relief, Vertigo, Dizziness, Meniere’s , Meniere’s Disease Vertigo is commonly described as a spinning sensation. As much as 10% of people living in America will experience this feeling. Those over age 40 are at higher risk for getting vertigo, with 2 out of every 5 people having it. In the 9 years from 1995 to 2004, those going to the emergency room for vertigo made up 2.5% of visits.

While vertigo and dizziness are not the same things, they are similar. The difference is that with vertigo one feels as if he is in motion, possibly spinning; or he may feel that the room is spinning around him. If a person also has ringing in his ears along with vertigo, it is likely that he is experiencing something called Meniere’s disease.

The reason that Meniere’s disease happens is still under debate. However, it is known that this condition is due to a malfunction of the vestibular system that regulates balance and location of the body. The nervous system encompasses the vestibular system and works in conjunction with the brain to keep the body balanced and functioning at its optimum.

Alleviating Vertigo Through Proper Spinal Alignment

Interestingly, a study done recently in Germany revealed that if the C1 (atlas bone) is misaligned patients often experience vertigo. Rather than looking to drugs that often just focus on symptoms, many are turning to upper cervical chiropractic care. This is a particular form of chiropractic that does not require popping or cracking the neck or spine. Rather, a gentle method is used that helps the bones to move back into their natural position. The healing properties of the body then take over and repair the damage. This corrects problems with the nervous system as pressure from the misalignment is no longer stressing the brainstem. Often one or two adjustments may be all that is necessary to see a significant improvement in vertigo.
