Protecting your adjustment and understanding how to maintain it will speed your recovery, saving you time and money. The amount of care you receive is always up to you. Following your doctor’s recommendations, however, ensures the best results. Here are a few suggestions that will start you on your way:

Follow the schedule of appointments that we have set up for you. There is no substitution for carefully timed chiropractic adjustments.

Avoid physical and mental stress before and after each adjustment. The more relaxed you are the better your adjustment will hold.

Faithfully follow all “home care” instructions for your condition. These may include such things as hot or cold packs, exercise, lifting instructions, etc.

Sleep on your back or on your side, never on your stomach. Ideally, you should have your neck supported while you sleep so your head is in a neutral position. To lessen the stress on your lower back, place a pillow under your knees (while on your back) or between your knees (while on your side).

Sit straight while in a chair, making sure that the lower back is supported. Do not cross your legs except at your ankles.

Life properly. Bend at the knees while keeping the back straight.

If any body motion causes discomfort, avoid it.

Please don’t try to be your own doctor! Self-administered remedies may do more harm than good.

Do your best to maintain a cheerful attitude. If you can, avoid stressful situations. Set aside at least one time each day for complete mental and physical relaxation. This is a good lifetime habit for the restoration and maintenance of normal health.

Don’t be in a hurry. Ligaments and muscles must have time to re-train themselves to support the re-aligned vertebrae. This is a natural process that can’t be rushed.

Please feel free to ask any questions that you have about your health or wellness. We are here to help you understand the best way to take care of your spinal condition.

If there is a change in your condition, for better or worse, tell us!

The use of caffeine, nicotine, or alcohol should be avoided just prior to an office visit. These substances can alter nerve and muscle activity.

Read all information given to you. This information is meant to help you progress faster in your care and to learn how to take care of your spinal condition more effectively.

Tell others! There are many people with the same problem that you came here to correct. Our mission is to make this a better world for everyone.

PROTECTING YOUR ADJUSTMENT CAN BE AS SIMPLE AS KEEPING A POSITIVE ATTITUDE TO AS DIFFICULT AS BREAKING BAD HABITS. WHATEVER THE CASE MAY BE, YOU WILL FIND A HEALTHY REWARD WHEN YOU ACT ON THE FOLLOWING SUGGESTIONS FOR GOOD SPINAL BALANCE. IT ALL DEPENDS ON YOU!

Do I really Need To Continue With Care?

You have an important decision to make. Will you use chiropractic care as merely a temporary form of symptom relief? Or will you continue your care to maximize your health and prevent your problem from returning?

It’s your choice.

Before you decide, consider the information on the following pages.

Make your decision wisely

You can’t judge your health by how you feel.

As a child you probably stayed from school when you weren’t feeling well. When you felt better, you returned to school because you were “well.”

But how you FEEL is a poor judge of your health. Those with undetected cancer, hypertension, heart disease and even tooth decay are suffering from ill health even without obvious symptoms.

When you’re feeling better, it’s tempting to discontinue your care. After all, our culture’s wrong-headed notions about health support it. Yet, discontinuing care now could lead to a needless relapse.

EVEN public and private insurance schemes are based on the notion that health is how you feel. Few policies cover wellness or preventive care.

If you want what’s best don’t depend upon their limited vision. Instead, the care needed to complete your healing and help you stay well will be your responsibility. With visits less frequent during the latter stage of your recovery, you’ll find continued care affordable.

Insurance and managed care plans rarely pay for TRUE health care

WITHOUT proper care and maintenance we can experience premature aging and a host of stress-related health problems.

You probably brush and floss your teeth... eat nutritious foods... get plenty of rest. These and other healthy habits can help you look, feel and be your best.

Include periodic chiropractic checkups as part of your routine. Having your spine and nervous system working at their best is essential for good health. Join the many other patients who report improved energy and vitality.

It’s wise to maintain your skin, your teeth, your hair…..and your spine.

Your health is your most valuable possession. Think of ALL the people who depend on you.

Your health influences everyone you know and love. Invest in a program of regular chiropractic care so you can be the loving parent, the responsive spouse or the dependable employee.

One reason to continue your chiropractic care is simply because you’re worth it!

It’s Up To You

We’ve seen some of our patients discontinue their care and then later suffer a relapse.

While we’re happy to help these patients (again), we’ve often wondered if they could have avoided their problem with less cost and inconvenience by continuing their care in the first place.

It’s up to you. Regardless of your decision, we’ll help you achieve your individual health goals.

How Long Will It Take?

YOU’RE THE DOCTOR

It surprises people to learn that drugs and doctors don’t heal. They can’t form scar tissue, mend a broken bone or heal a cut. Only you can do that!

So, our approach is to reduce interferences that hinder your ability to heal. Since healing is directed by your nervous system, that is our focus.

How long will it take?

Children often see results quickly. Adults and seniors with long-standing problems take longer. Everyone responds differently.

The speed of your recovery is based on the integrity of your nervous system, the focus of your chiropractic care.

Our recommendations are designed to produce the greatest results in the shortest amount of time.

Your care schedule is based on the results that millions have enjoyed.

If we don’t see you often enough, our ability to reduce negative patterns in your spine is impaired. And if visits are scheduled too closely, your body wouldn’t have enough time to make changes.

So, we take a middle path. Our advice is designed to produce the greatest results in the shortest amount of time. That’s why keeping your appointments is so important.

Keep Your Appointments.

Chiropractic care, unlike medical treatment, is a partnership. Without your participation it will take longer and your results will be short-lived.

What you do at home and at work have as much (or more!) effect on your recovery than what we do while you’re in our office.

So, ask questions and participate in your care. Those who do, seem to get well faster. Find out what you can do to augment the care you receive in our office.

Your healing potential is impaired by inactivity, obesity and accumulated stress or neglect.

The limitations of Matter…

Follow Our Suggestions.

We’ll recommend ways you can best facilitate your recovery, such as brisk walking or drinking more water.

We humans can’t grow a new leg or replace a finger lost in an accident. We have limitations in our ability to heal. Our prospects worsen if we’re overweight, use tobacco, abuse alcohol or live stressful lives.

Since your nervous system controls every tissue of your body, chiropractic care has been known to product profound results. Our intention is to bring greater integrity to your nervous system. But, it takes time.

We’re optimistic and you should be too!

It’s easy to become impatient if you’re accustomed to “fast, fast relief” by taking a pill that numbs your body. But true healing moves at its own pace.

By now you know many things affect this process. A fact often lost on insurance companies or others more interested in stockholder profits.

If your recovery doesn’t progress as well as expected, we’ll change what we’re doing or we’ll refer you to someone else. You and your health are our primary concern.

….TIME….True healing takes time and progresses at a speed determined by your body, not arbitrary deadlines or statistical averages.

RELAPSE?

Will you start and stop your care based upon how you feel, or adopt chiropractic health care as a way of life?

MOST symptoms subside long before muscles and ligaments supporting your spine can fully heal. That’s when it will be tempting to end your care.

But this weakened area of your spine predisposes you to a relapse.

Just as ongoing brushing and flossing promote dental health, we recommend regular spinal checkups. Sure, you’ll be feeling great, but these visits help us catch new problems early and support you in your desire to be your best.

Use chiropractic care to help you STAY well after you GET well.

HOW LONG WILL IT TAKE?
That depends on several things:

YOUR AGE. Our healing potential diminishes with age. There are exceptions, but generally younger people get quicker results than older people.

YOUR PROBLEM. It takes longer to resolve long-standing problems that have been neglected. More recent health problems tend to resolve faster.

YOUR DISCIPLINE. Are you willing to make some positive changes in your life? If you’re coachable and follow our suggestions you’ll see better results.

YOUR GOAL. Your intentions are just as important as ours. Our motive is to support you in attaining optimum health. Is that what you want?

YOUR ATTITUDE. It’s been proven that those with a positive outlook heal faster. As your nervous system works better, anything is possible!

How Did I Get This Way?

Shifting the Balance

Accidents that tear loose ligaments that hold the spinal bones together create a weakness for the spine to misalign. Because of the close relationship between the spine and the nervous system, good spinal balance is critical for good health. If the head shifts, for any reason, our body will naturally compensate.

With injury or stress, the muscles in the back will tighten and the pelvis will also shift in order to be as closely aligned with the head as possible. The body and spine become distorted and locked into a stressed position.

Misalignment of the spine can come from many sources. Have you ever experienced any of these activities?

Sports activities – skiing, golf, tennis, racquetball, basketball

Daily activities – housework, laundry, changing a bed

Getting in and out of the car

Lifting/carrying groceries

Sleeping

Working at desk/computer

Sitting in school

Labor work

Gardening

Shoveling snow

Amazingly, the body will continue to function even when the spine is misaligned. But it will not function as well as possible and a variety of health problems can arise. Since we are all vulnerable to accidents and stresses that may cause the spine to misalign, it is important to be well educated about spinal care and how to regain health balance. A misaligned spine is extremely susceptible to further injury. Periodic check-ups help avoid a relapse.

COMMON PROBLEMS ASSOCIATED WITH SPINAL MISALIGNMENT

Nervous Tension

Headaches

Seizures

Lower Back Pain

Arm Pain

Stiffness

Depression

Knee Pain

Loss of Sleep

Numbness

Allergies

Chronic Infection

Sinus Problems

Hip Pain

Fatigue

Shoulder Pain

Child Development Problems

Tight Muscles

Muscles Spasms

WHO ME, STRESSED?

Almost anything can add stress to our spinal column. Motor vehicle accidents, a serious fall, degenerative diseases, and even just living with gravity can alter our spinal alignment. With so many options available today, it’s tough to know where to turn for corrective and preventative care. That’s where NUCCA comes in…

In order to fully recover and stabilize, you must maintain your correction. To achieve this goal, here are some basic guidelines to follow during your initial days of healing. Following these guidelines can assist greatly in maintaining your correction.

Avoid strenuous activities and sports

Schedule in plenty of rest

Avoid any sudden or jarring movements

Refrain from other procedures on your head and neck until your initial correction has stabilized

FROM SOMETHING SO NATURAL AS THE BIRTH PROCESS TO SOMETHING AS UNNATURAL AS AN AUTO ACCIDENT, MANY OUTSIDE FORCES CAN CAUSE THE SPINE TO BE MISALIGNED.
